I took this shot this morning at a walking bridge in town. Hoping to get some early commuters on foot I just waited and shot a bunch of side shots to fill the time.

The Shadows of Giants

This is a shot I got at a graduation ceremony at K-State 3 years ago and just came across it recently. The flash from the grad-images photographer would cast these giant shadows on the background of the stage so I slowed my shutter down and caught this frame.

Juneteenth 2011

This is the shot that ran in the Sunday Manhattan Mercury with a story on Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a festival that celebrates black independence marking the day the South discovered slavery had been made illegal. Every year there is a Gospel fest, a parade, and several booths of vendors and phenomenal BBQ. This shot is of the Kansas City Marching Falcons during the parade on 11th St, the guy in the foreground, Charles Sanders, is doing a backflip.

One Packed Place

Nelson's Landing, a restaurant in Leonardville, KS, is owned by Green Bay Packer Jordy Nelson's parents. Needless to say in this small town Nelson's Landing was the place to be Sunday night for the Superbowl. The restaurant was filled with fans showing their support for the local celebrity.

Rex

This is my girlfriend's neighbor Rex. He lives in a garage and recycles lawn mowers for his only source of income. Rex makes around $6000 a year. He knows everything there is to know about his craft and even showed me the "Ferrari" of lawn mowers. He also has a large, beautiful garden he maintains. Rex (like most interesting subjects) is a talker. I spent about 2 hours talking with (listening to) him. He struck me as one of those insane genius types. He talked about anything from lawn mower mechanics to Egyptian lore. Crazy or not Rex was fun to listen to and made for great frames.

Kansan Lights

Last night we hung out on my porch as the sun went down and made the most beautiful colors in the sky. The only photo that I added some saturation to is the middle one of the power lines down the alley, and only a little since it was just a less interesting part of a very interesting sky.

Star trails by fire light

Another photographer, Sara, and I went cruising around looking for a place to do star trails one night and once we got around the Tuttle Creek lake we noticed that on the other side of the lake there were prairie fires so we set ourselves up across the lake from them. We were worried that the fire might blow out the trails but wanted to give it a shot anyway and it ended up working out really well.

History Returns

These are some of my shots from the KU vs K-State game this fall where the Wildcats beat the Jayhawks. I like the faces and the little bit of blood.

Rhino

This was taken after a tornado passed through Manhattan, KS the Summer of 2008. When I went to get this guy's information he asked if I wanted his real name or his nick name to which I answered "Real name", to which he quickly replied "I'm going to give you my nick name." He pointed to a tattoo on his arm and said "Rhino!"
